Renewing Your Library Card
Full-access card for New York State Residents: Library cards for adults expire every three years. Library cards for kids expire on their 13th birthday. Library cards for teens expire on their 18th birthday. Please bring acceptable ID and address verification to any open branch to renew your card.
eCards/Welcome Cards: Beginning March 2023, eCards will begin to expire after one year. eCards/Welcome Cards can be renewed online via My Account, by contacting the library, or by visiting any open BPL branch. eCards will renew as a Welcome Card. Educator cardholders: Educator cards expire after one year. Please bring acceptable ID and address verification to any open branch to renew your card (visit our Educator Card page for more information).
Books Unbanned teen cardholders: Cards expire after one year. Books Unbanned cards can be renewed online via My Account, or by contacting us at booksunbanned@bklynlibrary.org (visit our Books Unbanned page for more information).
Out-of-State cardholders: Effective July 15, 2022, Brooklyn Public Library is no longer offering its fee-based out-of-state library card. Existing out-of-state accounts will remain active until their expiration date and will not be renewable.
Reporting Your Card Lost
Any borrowed items and/or fees accrued prior to reporting your card lost or stolen are your responsibility.
To temporarily disable your account from use, please Contact Us. Please note that disabling your account will prevent you from the ability to borrow, place holds, or renew library material (including digital items).
To replace your card and unblock your account, visit a BPL branch and show acceptable ID.
