Who can get a BPL eCard?
Any person(s) residing in New York State.

What will I have access to with my BPL eCard?
You’ll have access to eBooks and audiobooks, our online resources and electronic databases, and Print on Demand services.

How long will be eCard be good for?
Your eCard will expire in 1 year and will auto-renew while our libraries have limited services due to the pandemic.

Is my eCard renewable?
Your eCard will expire in 1 year and will auto-renew while our libraries have limited services due to the pandemic. You do have the option to upgrade your eCard to a full access BPL library card which will give you access to our physical collections.

If I apply for another eCard, can I transfer my existing holds, lists, etc. over?
To maintain your holds, lists, etc. on your account, please ask for assistance to renew your eCard or upgrade to a full access account.

How many eBooks may I borrow at one time?
You may borrow up to 20 eBooks/audiobooks and 10 holds on Overdrive items.

How long can I keep an eBook?
The default lending period is 21 days. You don’t have to remember to turn it in, and there are no late fees.

Are there late fees associated with borrowing an eBook?
No. You will not accrue any late fees when you check out eBooks.

I forgot my eCard barcode! What should I do?
You can reach out to [email protected] with your request and a copy of your ID. Once verified, we can provide you your card number.

What if I already have a physical BPL library card?
You already have access to our eBooks!

How do I convert my eCard into a full access BPL library card?
Visit one of our Brooklyn Public Library branches and bring your current photo ID with proof of address. For a list of approved documents, please click here.

What are the benefits of converting my eCard into a full access library card?
A full access library card allows you to use all of the services and resources the library has to offer which includes borrowing library material, access to electronic databases, free computer use, and printing/copy services.

If I upgrade my eCard, can I transfer my holds and lists from my Overdrive account to my new library card?
Yes! Your checkouts, wish list, etc. will remain on your account and will not be affected if you upgrade to a full access card.

I have an eCard but I live outside of New York City. Is there a way I can convert my eCard to a full access BPL card online?
Unfortunately, no. You will need to visit one of our Brooklyn Public Library branches to switch out for a full access card.

How does this affect my out of state library card?
Your out of state library card will not be affected and current policy and procedures will apply.
