NYC’s three library systems have been asked to make a small number of our libraries available as Learning Labs for K-8 students when they are not in school. Six BPL branches, including Carroll Gardens Library, will be temporarily used for this purpose until the end of the current school year. The Learning Lab at Carroll Gardens Library will be managed by Good Shepard Services through the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Unfortunately, to safely operate within social distancing constraints, we cannot offer regular library service at these branches while they are being used as Learning Labs.
BPL has been working to support the City’s efforts throughout the pandemic, and is pleased our branches will be able to positively contribute through offering space for Learning Labs. We expect Carroll Gardens Library will return to providing library service after this program has concluded in 2021.
One of Brooklyn’s most beautiful Carnegie branches, Carroll Gardens Library has served its neighborhood for more than 100 years. Its spacious, 14,000-plus square-foot interior retains its original, dramatic barrel-vaulted ceiling and other historical features. The branch’s most popular programs include Toddler Time and wellness activities for older adults.
