Ask a Librarian

Need one-on-one personal reference assistance? Whether you'd like to research for an assignment, find business, government, or medical information, search for an ancestor, or would like an in-depth demonstration of how to use the library's learning resources, we can help you. The Book a Librarian service allows you to correspond with a professional reference librarian at Central Library.

How It Works
  • Submit your research request to us via our Book a Librarian form.
  • Please allow 2-3 days for a librarian to respond to schedule a brief reference interview.
  • You can expect an email within two weeks with up to five resources for you to continue your research. You may then choose to book a follow-up 30 min virtual appointment for additional research support.
  • In order to provide the best possible service we highly recommend having a Brooklyn Public Library card. Sign up for a free library card.

Let a BPL Librarian be your personal guide to our vast collection of high-quality information and resources available at the library!
