NYC’s three library systems have been asked to make a small number of our libraries available as Learning Labs for K-8 students when they are not in school. Six BPL branches, including Borough Park Library, will be temporarily used for this purpose until the end of the current school year. The Learning Lab at Borough Park Library will be managed by Roads to Success through the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Unfortunately, to safely operate within social distancing constraints, we cannot offer regular library service at these branches while they are being used as Learning Labs.
BPL has been working to support the City’s efforts throughout the pandemic, and is pleased our branches will be able to positively contribute through offering space for Learning Labs. We expect Borough Park Library will return to providing library service after this program has concluded in 2021.
Borough Park Library has long boasted one of the highest circulation rates in Brooklyn, with young adult fiction especially popular. As of January 2017, branch visits are up 19% over last year, and the library ranks in the top 10 of Brooklyn’s branches in terms of program sessions and attendance.
