Location Sharing

Brooklyn Public Library gives patrons who live and work in New York State the option to receive instant access to our digital collection when they sign up online for a library card. This card type is called a Welcome Card.

Registration

To receive a Welcome Card, applicants must accept their browser's prompt to share their device's location; and the device must be shown to be located within New York State at time of application.

Location sharing is activated through your web browser. Learn more via the following browser specific instructions below.

Renewals

Welcome Cards can be renewed online via My Account or by visiting any open BPL branch. In order to renew your Welcome Card online, you must re-enable location sharing from your device as well as be located within New York State at time of renewal. Learn more.

  • You may also need to enable location sharing in your device's system settings.
  • You may need to clear your device's cache for changes to take effect.

If you have activated location sharing but the BPL signup/renewal form does not recognize your choice, please Contact Us.
