Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is a proud partner in New York City Connected Communities (NYC-CC). One of NYC Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications' (DoITT) broadband access programs, NYC-CC allows more New Yorkers to close the digital divide by expanding the availability of laptop computers, internet access points, and computer classes. In addition, NYC Connected Communities offers a variety of resources that support digital literacy and employment. With access to computer classes, social media workshops, one-on-one resume and career help, and more learning opportunities, BPL is a library system where users can improve their computer skills and become workforce ready.

Laptop Program

Only adults (ages 17+) and young adults (ages 13-17) may borrow laptops. To borrow a laptop you must have a valid BPL library card and acceptable identification. Adults are required to show a current government-issued photo ID displaying home address and Young Adults are required to show a valid school ID or non-driver's picture ID. If your government-issued ID does not have a current address you must also present a recent piece of mail (postmarked within 90 days) with your current address. Library staff will hold onto your library card for the duration of your laptop loan session. Visit the Borrowing Materials page for more information on getting a BPL library card and qualifying forms of identification.

Resume and Career Help

Drop in for a one-on-one session to get help working on a resume, searching for a job, using online career resources or practicing interview skills. Classes on special topics will also be offered. Learn more.

New Technology

Try out music or photo software; learn how to use Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel or PowerPoint; and learn how to navigate social networking and media websites with the help of experienced staff.

Libraries with Laptops, Computer Classes and Job Readiness Resources

Visit the following locations or go to the online events calendar to find programs for teens, kids, seniors and adults that explore computer and job resources—right in your neighborhood.

Please Note:

Computers are for use in the library only.

Adults must have valid library cards and photo ID that corresponds to our records. Young adult patrons must have valid library cards and school ID (or equivalent). When borrowing a laptop, all patrons must use their own library card, and are responsible for the laptop while it is in their possession. Download our Laptop Loan Policy for more information.
