A Day as a Librarian of Tomorrow: A Brief Reflection of How Cool my Job is!

Anonymous

Hey, ever wondered what a teen working in a library looks like?

Probably not, since you don't see it happen! Lol.

Anyway, kidding but I will show you the perspective of a Librarian Of Tomorrow intern in the library!

First things first

I grab my water bottle, phone, and whatever else might be needed and throw it all into a tote bag. I usually email my mentors, the KINDEST people on earth that I will be late because of traffic that ruins EVERYTHING. Then I run to my library and get signed in. Then, I get told my assignment of the day.

Assignments

It could be designing a flyer (LOVE), preparing for craft and games programs, making book displays, or the tedious reshelving of books. I usually stay from 2-4 hours working on whatever is needed. I sit at an important desk in the staff area and start my work. Book displays are probably the best thing to do because you get the freedom to make pretty posters and display them for the whole library and just be proud of yourself. This internship is pretty light as you just get to have enjoyable assignments while sometimes munching on snacks. My library is pretty calm, so there's no stress to finish work or getting irritated by the loud noises of the environment.

After working, I just sign out and skip my way home with satisfaction that I got something done!

A Brief Reflection

It is finally June and summer is HERE!!

School just ended and I have the regents (sighs) coming up. But something else is coming to an end, my internship! Part of me is satisfied that I lasted the whole year, but the other part is sad that I’m letting go of such a fun job.

Overall, the internship couldn't have been better without the help and kindness of my mentors :D. My most memorable moment of the internship would probably be creating a mini fairy garden as a connection display with the help of my mentor. Let me tell you, it was GORG! We locked in that day, hot glueing wings onto mini people and creating mini ponds in seashells. I got to make some other really cool stuff like bedazzled brain hats, flowers, flip books, and other cute knick knacks.

Doing this internship was a blast, and I met some other fun interns and it was just a good time. I definitely learned a lot during this internship like time management, design, teambuilding, and what it's like to be part of a community. I hope to see these people again and hope other people do this internship too. If you love design like me, PLEASE do this. It is so fun to create such pretty stuff.

Logging off for the summer, see ya!
