Israel's Attack on Palestine’s Al -Aqsa Mosque

Zoha B. | Librarians of Tomorrow Intern

Israel has been torturing Palestinians for years now. The attack on the holy mosque (Masjid - Al - Aqsa) isn’t something new, and that itself says how oppressed Palestinians have been, for the longest time. Even though this has been going on for so long, it’s like every time I hear of a new attack on Palestine, it hurts more and more. What’s super devastating is the fact that, with this recent incident, the Israelis chose to attack in the few remaining days of Ramadan, the most holy month for Muslims. The young kids who were reaching out to Allah (God in Arabic) to help them recover from past traumas and riots had no clue that another riot would happen. The young kids worshiping their maker, hoping to get closer to Allah, were interrupted.

How devastating is this?

Why is no one empathizing with these young Palestinian kids?

The Palestinian adults who only want to provide for their kids?

The adults who were only reaching their hands out to Allah, but get interrupted by bullets?

They scream, Why? Allah what have I done to deserve this?

In the videos I’ve seen, I saw Palestinians running, trying to save themselves and their kids. How much longer will they live like this for? Their homes being taken away by Israelis, young kids dying, Palestinians being injured daily, bombings, riots, every day. Imagine having to fear death as soon as you walk two steps outside. Imagine having these thoughts: “Am I next? Is my mom next? What about my brother? Where is he? He hasn’t gotten back in so long. Run! Run!”

Why aren’t we talking about this? Has your school brought this up? Has your school empathized with you about this?  People stay silent when it comes to Muslims.

How do you have the guts to say “Islam is the religion of terrorism”?

When you see with your own eyes what goes on everyday...how oppressed Muslims are throughout the world?

How can you act so blindly?

My heart aches for the young kids, the old kids, the adults in Palestine who weren’t even able to experience peace in Ramadan, the most peaceful month for Muslims.

The Palestinians who were looking forward to celebrating Eid, the sacred holiday after Ramadan: what happens now? After they’ve lost family members, after their houses have been taken away from them?

How are they expected to celebrate Eid, with the pain that they have to carry in their hearts? Of injured family members, of the loss of family members? Of living in current war, in a country that they can’t even claim as their own?

I wish for a day when I finally hear in the news, “Palestine is free.. we support Palestinians. There will be no more deaths of kids or adults.”

But when will this be? When will this be?

If you’re tired, If I’m tired, imagine how tired Palestinians are.
