The holidays were four months ago and your Instant Pot/air fryer/slow cooker are still in the box. You’ve tried “winging it” with recipes, but your creations are not what you might call "appetizing". And online recipes are useful, but doing battle with popup ads and sticky hands? That sounds like a recipe for a sticky phone! And you are stuck in this predicament, because before the internet, no technology existed for sharing information about food….

Wait! The Library has literally thousands of excellent books to help with both your gadget struggles and your recipe fails. With pictures to make your mouth water and representing a variety of cuisines and dietary needs, these selections from our vast collection of cookbooks will encourage you to open that box and get into your kitchen.

What can I cook in my...Instant Pot, air fryer, waffle iron & more - While the bulk of the recipes ares for the Instant Pot, there are also recipes for the other gadgets in your life, including ones that you may have thought you mastered. Additionally, as an added bonus, the instructions on how to clean and maintain your Instant Pot are more detailed than what comes in the box.

Air fryer perfection: from crispy fries and juicy steaks to perfect vegetables by America’s Test Kitchen - From one of the most trusted sources in the culinary world, America’s Test Kitchen has done its research to present 75 recipes on how to best use an air fryer. Included in each recipe is a description of why it was selected as the best way to make that specific dish, tips on what to serve as a side, and nutritional values. And in true ATK form, there is also an extensive section on how air fryers work, reviews of specific manufacturers, and general cooking tips when using it.

The essential Mexican Instant Pot cookbook: authentic flavors and modern recipes for your electric pressure cooker - Filled with beautiful photos, this comprehensive cookbook has a huge amount of recipes (including vegetarian options and dessert), Instant Pot instructions, cooking time charts for proteins, beans, and rice, and useful tips on how to use popular Mexican ingredients. Some recipes are more complex than others, often referring to other recipes included in the book, so novice home chefs may want to save this book for later.

The ultimate Instant Pot cookbook: 200 deliciously simple recipes for your electric pressure cooker - You may not need another Instant Pot cookbook. With many recipes covering proteins, vegetables, soups and stews, desserts, drinks and even how to make pantry condiments (pickles!), this title will keep you busy in the kitchen.

This is just a small sampling of the many cookbooks we have at the library. If you don’t have time to browse the shelves, check out some recent booklists that highlight our cookbook collection, created by our BookMatch service.

And now that you have achieved mastery over a range of kitchen gadgets, join other like-minded cookbook lovers at Brooklyn Public Library’s Cookbook Club! This group meets monthly to talk cookbooks and share recipes and cooking techniques. Mark your calendars for their next meeting on Wednesday, May 8th.
