Sophia Jansson
Sophia Jansson is the Chair of the Board of Moomin Characters Ltd. Moomin Characters Ltd owns the rights and licenses the original artwork of the Moomins, created by Tove Jansson(1914-2001), a Swedish-speaking illustrator, writer and artist from Finland. The Moomins are a family of white and roundish trolls with large snouts that live in Moominvalley. All characters from Moominvalley are trademark registered worldwide. Sophia has held leading positions at the company for more than 20 years, the last decade as creative director until 2021.
Charlie McDowell
Charlie McDowell, a British/American Filmmaker, most recently directed the feature film adaptation of Tove Jansson's novel The Summer Book, starring Glenn Close and Anders Danielson Lie. Case Study produced the film.

His previous feature, WINDFALL, starring Jason Segal, Lily Collins, and Jesse Plemons, sold preemptively to Netflix in an eight-figure deal and was released on March 18th, 2022. CHARLIE’s film, THE DISCOVERY, starring Jason Segal, Rooney Mara, and Robert Redford, premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival before being acquired by Netflix as well. His directorial debut, THE ONE I LOVE, had its premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, was produced by The Duplass Brothers and was released by Radius. It was also nominated for Best First Screenplay at the 2015 Independent Spirit Awards.
CHARLIE also produced and directed the pilot as well as the finale for Showtime’s, ON BECOMING A GOD IN CENTRAL FLORIDA, starring Kirsten Dunst, Alexander Skarsgård and Theodore Pellerin. He also directed two episodes of the HBO series, SILICON VALLEY, as well as multiple episodes of DEAR WHITE PEOPLE for Netflix. Most recently in the TV space, CHARLIE directed an episode of TALES FROM THE LOOP for Amazon Prime, starring Rebecca Hall and Paul Schneider as well as the finale of AMC’s DISPATCHES FROM ELSEWHERE starring Jason Segel.
In November 2022, McDowell launched Case Study Films alongside Lily Collins and Alex Orlovsky. The production company will look to tell compelling and outside-of-the-box stories through a commercial eye in both film and television. Case Study will develop material internally and with outside filmmakers and talent, discovering, supporting and giving voice to the next generation of storytellers from all walks of life, as it generates projects for its principals. Recent projected helmed by Case Study include Memory, starring Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard which received accolades at the Venice Film Festival as well as an Indie Spirit nomination for Chastain and His Three Daughters, starring Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne and Elizabeth Olsen. Among the projects in various states of production under the production banner are The Summer Book, directed by McDowell and starring Glenn Close and Anders Danielsen Lie, and Lurker, starring Archie Madekwe and Théodore Pellerin. Also in the works at the company is The Accomplice, a limited series based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Lisa Lutz, which is set up at Amazon. Olivia Milch will adapt the book, with Collins attached to star and Dylan Clark Productions co-producing. Case Study has a development deal with Legendary Entertainment to develop and produce television series.
The exhibition and this program is presented by Brooklyn Public Library in partnership with Moomin Characters, Moomin Arabia, the creator of the world-famous Moomin mugs that have become cherished collectables, Finnair, one of the world's oldest airlines, and the City of Tampere, home of the world's only Moomin Museum.
