The New York Liberty-themed library card, available at all BPL locations beginning in June 2025, features the championship WNBA team and their iconic mascot, Ellie the Elephant.

What are the perks of having a Brooklyn Public Library card?
A Brooklyn Public Library card is all New Yorkers need to access millions of free books and media; vinyl records and musical instruments; free passes to cultural organizations; and programming, classes, social services and resources for every stage of life. Learn more about using the Library.
Where are the New York Liberty library cards available?
The special-edition New York Liberty library cards will be available at all open BPL locations beginning June 2, 2025. BPL and the Liberty are issuing 100,000 cards, which will be available while supplies last. Note: Patrons are limited to one New York Liberty library card per account.
Who is qualified to get a Brooklyn Public Library card?
Brooklyn Public Library's card is free for anyone who lives, works, pays property taxes or goes to school in New York state. Proof of eligibility is required (i.e. current driver's license, paystub, utility bill, etc. For a full list, click here).
What if I already have a BPL card? Can I switch to the New York Liberty card?
Yes! If you are already a BPL cardholder, visit a BPL location and let your librarian know you would like to activate a New York Liberty card. The special-edition New York Liberty cards will be available at all open BPL locations starting June 2, 2025, while supplies last.
