Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.
This free certification course is being held by the New Lots Literacy Zone in partnership with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. You must be 18 or older to register to attend this training.
This 8-hour long course covers Mental Health First Aid for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and more.
Participants get a nationally recognized certification that is valid for 3 years. Mental Health First Aid is included on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).
