University Open Air: Letters to the Future: Writing Epistolary Stories
What if a letter could outlive you? Could reach a future self—or a future world?
In this imaginative, heart-forward workshop, we’ll explore the rich, intimate form of epistolary storytelling—writing in the form of letters, diary entries, voicemails, or unsent texts. Whether you’re writing from the perspective of a real person, a fictional character, or your future self, letters have the power to confess, resist, and remember.
In this workshop, we’ll:
- Read juicy, moving excerpts from famous epistolary works (and some weird ones too!).
- Write letters across time—to ancestors, to lovers, to ourselves at age 80.
- Play with form: post-it notes, WhatsApp messages, love letters, warnings.
- Explore how secrets, longing, and memory shape our writing.
No experience needed. Come ready to write—and to receive a letter you didn’t expect.
