Textile and Tapestry Workshop Series (SESSION 2: NATURAL DYING)
This 4-week workshop series, taught by teaching artist Zelda Mazor-Freedman, will explore the art of textiles and culminate in a group project, making a tapestry for the Red Hook Interim Library. You will learn basic wet felting, natural dying, sewing, beading, and embroidery techniques. Each participant will then work in individual felted squares, that will be sewn together to make a mosaic tapestry.
Each session will take place on Friday afternoons in August, and each class requires registration. Those interested in the workshop are encouraged to sign up for all four sessions, but if you cannot make all of them that is okay!
SESSION 2: NATURAL DYING
The second session of the workshop series will take place in the garden on Sullivan Street, behind the church, and will involve dying the felt sheets we created last week. Wear clothes that can get messy-- we will be dip-dying our squares into dye baths. This will be a shorter workshop, as we will just be dyeing and rinsing our projects.
If you have any other items you would like to dye (clothes, linens, etc) you are welcome to bring them. Natural dying only works with organic fibers.
Registration required. This workshop is open to ages 13+. Any questions, please email galexander@bklynlibrary.org
