Brooklyn Public Library in partnership with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will be providing a free certification course for Mental Health First Aid focusing on youth mental health.

Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common supports.

This 8-hour course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help to children and teenagers experiencing a mental health challenge, mental disorder, or a mental health crisis. It also teaches how to connect the child's parent(s) or guardian to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.

Participants get a 3 year Nationally recognized Certification. Mental Health First Aid is included on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

Registration is required for this program.

Please contact the HealthyBKLYN Team for any questions, healthybklyn@bklynlibrary.org

This project is funded by the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services, under Cooperative Agreement Number UG4LM012347 with the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, Worcester.
