Live! from Brooklyn: Bright Colors
LIVE! from Brooklyn: Bright Colors is the preeminent showcase of bassist and composer Trevor Robertson’s body of work. This concert will be free and open-to-the-public, and will feature genre-bending contemporary jazz performed by a stellar quintet of young NYC-based musicians. The event will be audio and video recorded for wider release at a later date.
The music of this program is born out of the composer’s pursuit to preserve the memory and empower the spirit of a deceased loved one. This music has the power to uplift those struggling with grief, and to enhance individuals’ relationships with their loved ones, both living and dead.
As a composer, Trevor is influenced heavily by idioms of the jazz tradition including bebop, hard bop, post bop, modal jazz, jazz Manouche, Bossa Nova, and jazz fusion. He also draws on such diverse sounds as European classical music, Lucumí worship music, rock, funk, and the drum-and-bass innovations of the late 1990s.
Trevor is an active performer on the NYC jazz scene, and performs with greats such as Stacy Dillard, Duane Eubanks, Takuya Kuroda, Martha Kato, Marius Van Den Brink, Anwar Marshall, and many others. Trevor’s quintet for the Bright Colors program will feature Hina Oikawa on woodwinds, Seoyeon Im on violin, Charles Colizza on guitar, and Ben Freidkin on drums.
