Black History Month live music music performance

Join us for a jazz concert in celebration of the centennial of the birth of one of America's most notable writers, James Baldwin, who was born in Harlem, NYC, on August 2, 1924. A writer whose works included novels, plays, essays, and poems, Baldwin was also active in the Civil Rights Movement. Awarded France's highest honor, The National Order of the Legion of Honour in 1986, James Baldwin's works are significant in the way they explored the prevalent themes of his era.

The performance will include a brief oral presentation of Baldwin's life and his accomplishments, from his humble beginning to a teenage mother to world renown author and the important role of New York Public Library on 135th Street where he honed his love for literature.

Jazz guitarist Richie Nick is a member of the East Flatbush Community, a musician, and a retired schoolteacher who taught music at NYC public schools for decades. You can find his music and videos online via all major outlets.
