Civic Engagement
teen time
Based on the belief that youth know best what their generation needs the Youth Civic Hub is a one-stop-shop for NYC teens to plug in to local changemaking efforts and enhance their own civic learning. Hear from the YVote team how the Hub was created by local high school and college students and how you can use it to become more engaged and informed in local politics.
Join us to discuss intellectual freedom issues, your favorite books, and all things BPL's Books Unbanned initiative. Connect with peers across the country and learn how you can support youth in protecting the right to read whatever they choose.
Please register by 4 pm EST to receive a Zoom link the day of the meetup.
YVote:
YVote is a NYC-based nonprofit committed to equipping and mobilizing NYC teens to create the change they want to see, at and beyond the ballot box. YVote was founded by high school students and civic-minded adults in 2017, in response to the civic breakdown across the US and the low youth voting rates in NYC. Today, YVote engages high school students across the city through youth-led afterschool programs, leadership opportunities, and citywide civic initiatives like the Youth Civic Hub.
Mia Williams-Payne is the Youth Organizing Lead for the Digital Youth Civic Hub. She's from the Bronx, NY, and has been actively engaged in nonprofit work since high school, focusing on issues such as youth housing services and voter engagement. Mia is dedicated to equipping youth and disenfranchised communities with the necessary tools and resources to actively contribute to their local community.
Madina Khasanboeva is a sophomore at Boston University, studying Advertising with a passion for art, design, and technology. For over a year, she has been working with YVote, where she initially contributed to the content team, helping create a youth civic hub to engage NYC youth in civics and voting. Now in an outreach role, she continues to support the organization’s mission by expanding its reach and impact.
This program is made possible through support by the Long Ridge Foundation and The Destina Foundation.
