Grant Writing Workshop for Folk /Traditional Artists: Part 1
This series of workshops is offered through the Heritage Ambassador program.
The Heritage Ambassador Program fosters cultural ecosystems at Brooklyn Public Library by bringing together folk and traditional artists, library staff, and communities to create connections via storytelling, relationship-building, and community knowledge-sharing.
This series of workshops provides artists who represent their cultural community with an overview of the funding landscape of New York City and New York State and discuss best practices to research and write grants.
Topics to be discussed include:
- best practices for time management
- selecting the right grant for the right project
- tips of the trade for online grant researching
- the differences between grants for individuals versus collectives versus small organizations
- the ins and outs of fiscal sponsorship
- how to submit applications
The workshops are hosted by Andrew Colwell, program director and staff ethnomusicologist for the Center for Traditional Music and Dance. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University and a Bachelor in Fine Arts in visual and critical studies from the Art Institute of Chicago. He will share his experiences and skills acquired while successfully applying for and reviewing applications to public funding opportunities specific to New York.
Registration is required. Zoom link will be provided upon registration.
Part 2 workshop will take place on June 20 from 10:30AM-12:30PM
