Demystifying Tax Filing and Tax Credits
Are you new to tax filing, or do you need to brush up on some basics because your marital status or your income source has changed? Or maybe you are interested in learning more about tax credits, especially those available to low-income tax filers or tax filers with young dependent(s)?
Filing tax returns can be as complicated as a labyrinth and requires more than just knowing your total income for the year. Taxpayers must navigate through various forms specific to their situations, and when circumstances in life change, how they file taxes may also change. While there are electronic filing programs and free tax preparation services to simplify the process, taxpayers must know some basics to understand how to review their tax returns and to maximize the tax credits they are entitled to claim.
Join us for this Lunch and Learn session to learn the basics of taxes and demystify the process. The Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic at Mobilization for Justice will offer basic information on tax filing and tax credits to help taxpayers understand what is required of and available to them in this and previous tax years. You'll feel more confident going into the next filing season. Registration is required.
