Bridging the Gap: Our Streets, Our Stories - Intergenerational Storytelling and Recording
This Summer, our Bridging the Gap initiative brings back Our Streets, Our Stories!
We're pairing older adults (ages 55+) and teens (ages 14-18) to tell their stories, hear each other's stories, and record them as part of Brooklyn's oral history!
Intergenerational family participation, such as grandparents and grandchildren, is encouraged.
This 4-week series will be as follows:
Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 4:30pm – 6:30pm
Virtual, Via Zoom
Program Workshop Session 1
THE STORIES INSIDE ME: Participants consider the power of their own personal narrative, examining the elements of their own personal narrative: their identity, background, and experiences. Older adults and teens will consider why their story matters and what makes a story important.
Tuesday, July 23, 2024, from 4:30pm – 6:30pm
Virtual, via Zoom
Program Workshop Session 2
THE STORIES AROUND ME: Participants will turn their attention outward to the stories that surround them in their everyday lives. They will learn the power of asking questions and listening carefully for answers. Older adults and teens will have the opportunity to try out these techniques in pairs as a warmup to their recording at the library.
Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 4:30pm – 6:30pm
In person at Central Library Recording Studio @Info Commons
