Banned Books Week: Teens Sound Off!

Tue, Sep 24 2024
4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
Mill Basin, Program Room

banned books book discussion

As of now, book bans have threatened the intellectual freedom of youth everywhere. Before our movie night on Thursday, let’s have a conversation about it all: Why are books being challenged? How do these bans affect you? Have you read any challenging books recently? How have these challenged books affected you and your outlook on the world?

This is a hybrid (in-person and Zoom) event. Snacks and drinks will be provided for in-person attendees.

*Our conversation will involve discussion of the book The Hate U Give. Books will be provided day of, but feel free to ask for one beforehand! See the front desk.

Registration required. Zoom links will be distributed 1 week before the event, and a reminder will be sent 1 day before the event.

9 covers of frequently challenged books, arranged in a 3x3 array. From top to bottom, left to right: Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, All Boys Aren't Blue by George M. Johnson, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Krik? Krak! by Edwidge Danticat, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Beyond Magenta: Transgender Teens Speak by Susan Kuklin, and Maus by Art Spiegelman
