To the beach! That is where this week's Photo of the Week is taking us. Photographer Raoul Froger-Doudemont took this photo around 1900, but the scene looks like it could have taken place at Coney Island just yesterday. The original cataloger assumed Coney island as the location this photograph was taken, but it is not known for certain. The pavilion on the boardwalk in the background could be a clue; the sign reads "J. H. Brode."
The Raoul Froger-Doudemont photograph collection (BCMS.0057) is maintained both by the Center for Brooklyn History and the Brooklyn Museum. The original glass plate negatives were transferred to the Museum in 1994.
