Last week we wished you Happy Pride Month and this week we are wishing you a Happy National Accordion Awareness Month! If you are not already aware, an accordion is most simply a musical instrument with treble piano keys or buttons on one side and bass buttons on the other. The instrument makes sound via the hand-operated bellows in between. You may think of accordions as only for polka, zydeco, tango, or French ballads, but this versatile instrument has been used in jazz, punk, folk, and rock music as well.

In this photograph from the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, we see accordionist Connie Ficarra performing for three children and Santa Claus at St. Charles Orthopedic Hospital at 277 Hicks Street. Little Sandra Johnson (sitting just below the accordion) does not seem very happy to have been made aware of this instrument.
