Spring 1953 cover of Packer Current Items with block printed green and yellow plants and part of Packer's building
Erica Satzinger, PCI Spring 1953, color ink on paper; front cover, Packer Current Items, 1953; Packer Collegiate Institute records, 2014.019, Box 124,  Brooklyn Public Library, Center for Brooklyn History.

I know, I know - flowers, for spring? Groundbreaking. But when I came across this charming hand printed cover of the student publication Packer Current Items in our collection of Packer Collegiate Institute records, I couldn't resist. It features not only a cheery surround of yellow blossoms and deep green leaves, but also a lovely little section of the school's facade, faithfully reproduced by student Erica Satzinger. Satzinger created several other illustrations for this issue of Current Items, a few of which are shown below.

Three black and white block printed images: a weeping willow tree, an attic room, and the moon in a starry sky.

This is just one of many issues of Current Items in the Packer collection at CBH, which is one of our largest. It's no wonder that Packer students continue to produce original research projects from the collection year after year, some of which were recently presented at a symposium at CBH.
