For those who have been shocked by the recent cold temperatures, today’s Photo of the Week features a cheery winter scene of story hour held outside the children’s wing of Central Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza.  A group of warmly bundled kids listen to an intrepid reader, but many appear distracted by a plump snowman, their own creation, towering benignly over the proceedings.

I was unable to find a mention in our Brooklyn Newsstand specific to winter story hours, but I did see this article, published in February, outlining all the services offered to our public, and story hour is mentioned.

Books, music on records and paintings [!] are loaned, and there are story hours indoors and outdoors for children.

Let’s salute these hardy youngsters and librarians braving the cold to celebrate storytelling through the winter season.
