The Brooklyn Daily Eagle collection has a large number of photographs concerning all aspects of the Brooklyn Dodgers: players on the field, in the locker room, at summer camp, crowds of celebrating fans, and all manner of general horsing around. Among them we also see Dodger families pictured. Today’s Photo of the Week features a Dodger family member, and a wonderful companion image. Our first photo shows a smiling David Campanella, in his school classroom, shyly holding up a school essay written about his dad, Roy.
Though David’s pose is fresh and spontaneous, this is clearly not a candid photograph because there is a baseball and bat artfully arranged on the desk in front of him. We recently discovered his essay entitled: “How I feel to be the son of a baseball hero” and added that to our online collection.
For those who wondered what David wrote, we can now complete the picture.
