Storytime with the Pajama Club

Madison Xu

New York City high school student Madison Xu is launching a free virtual storytime for children, filled with stories from around the world!  Read on for some background, and program details, from Madison.

When I was younger, my mom was always there to help me find amazing books about  different cultures and people. I loved the way that the words could transform even the most distant living experiences into something familiar. I’ve always noticed the lack of more diverse and international narratives within our educational institutions and our popularized children's books. This program was created in hopes of introducing more children to books that reflect the multicultural nature of our world. For these young children, books are are instrumental to how they see the world, and by depicting more countries and cultures within their books, young children will naturally expand their perception of the world beyond their everyday. I hope that this program will not only promote literacy and education about our global world, but also foster more celebration of our differences!

Storytime With the Pajama Club

Bring your coziest blanket and your favorite stuffed animal to the “Pajama Club”, a new bedtime story event that will be taking place every Thursday at 7:00 pm. Madison Xu and friends will be reading stories from different countries and cultures all over the world to children ages 3-7 for 20-30 minutes per session. Each interactive session will feature a picture book telling a well-known or traditional children’s story. The program will be hosted on Zoom and there will be no charge to "attend." Interested families can register via the Google Form link by Thursday morning.
