The photo of the week depicts Empire Stores, located at the Dumbo waterfront, around 1880. The photograph comes from the George J. Bischof papers and photographs collection comprised of photographs, correspondence, and news clippings for to the Brooklyn Engineers Club, all pertaining to George J. Bischof and his employment as an engineer for the Borough of Brooklyn. The photographs are by both George J. Bischof and Joseph P. Hall. The above photograph is by Joseph P. Hall and is part of a series of black-and-white prints of waterfront stores in Brooklyn, mounted accordion style, taken around 1900. You can view the digitized photographs here.
