It is certainly possible to enjoy and appreciate an image without knowing its context. I enjoy the clothes and the clear camaraderie of the people in the two pictures shown above from the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service records (ARC.129). Even so, the details of the location, people, and the event that brought these people together are unknown and these pictures would be even more worthwhile if they had those contextual details. These are two of about 20 images showing the same group of people dancing and hanging out. High waists, flared pant legs, all-stars, funky hats and groovy shades are on full display. The only details that we have are that these photographs were taken in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bensonhurst in 1976, and that the people appear to be part of some sort of youth or community group.
