Chiwoniso Kaitano is the Executive Director of the Girl Be Heard, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization that builds leaders, changemakers & activists by developing, amplifying and celebrating the voices of girls and young women through socially conscious theater-making, storytelling and performance.
Chiwoniso’s nonprofit career has been dedicated to helping organizations at the forefront of arts and culture, social justice, youth education, and social services. Chiwoniso has long been involved in the arts scene including running the long-standing literary series The Salon, and founding Africa Redux a platform that promotes the art, culture and music of Africa. Chiwoniso also serves on the Board of Directors of three organizations: The Center for Fiction, The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the International Contemporary Ensemble.
Presented as part of the Emily Warren Roebling Speaker Series, which features successful women in a variety of fields speaking on her path to success. This program series is inspired by the achievements of Emily Warren Roebling, an engineer who completed work on the Brooklyn Bridge in 1883.
