Join us for an evening of thrilling, spooky, and chilling readings, by Brooklyn authors and artists, including Melissa Lozada-Olivia, Kimberly McCreight, Melody Bates, Erin E. Adams, and Lauren Wilkinson. Refreshments will be provided!
PARTICIPANTS
Melissa Lozada-Oliva is a poet, novelist, and screenwriter. She is the author of peluda, Dreaming of You, and Candelaria, which was named one the best books of 2023 by USA TODAY and VOGUE. She runs a substack called READING SUCKS and is the cohost of the podcast SAY MORE with Olivia Gatwood. She earned her MFA from NYU and lives in Brooklyn.
Kimberly McCreight is an American author. Her debut novel, Reconstructing Amelia, was a New York Times bestseller that was nominated for the Edgar, Anthony, and Alex Awards. It was also named Entertainment Weekly’s Favorite Book of the Year. Reconstructing Amelia has been optioned for TV by HBO and Blossom Films
Melody Bates is a queer femme creatrix based in Red Hook Brooklyn. As an actor, she has performed everywhere from the Metropolitan Opera and the Public Theater to Law & Order SVU. As a writer, she is currently immersed in her Enchanted Islands fairy tale project, and her "boisterous and splendid" play R & J & Z is available from Original Works Publishing. On IG: @xxxooomelody
Erin. E Adams is a first-generation Haitian American writer and theatre artist. She received her BA with honors in literary arts from Brown University, her MFA in acting from The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program, and her MFA in dramatic writing from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
Lauren Wilkinson is a debut novelist, her book American Spy, was a Washington Post bestseller, an NAACP Image Award nominee, an Anthony award nominee, and an Edgar Award nominee. It was short-listed for the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize, was a Barnes & Noble Book of the Month, a PBS book club pick, and was included on Barack Obama’s 2019 Recommended Reading List. Lauren earned an MFA in fiction and literary translation from Columbia University, and has taught writing at Columbia and the Fashion Institute of Technology. She was a Center for Fiction Emerging Writer’s Fellow, and has received support from both the MacDowell Colony and the Djerassi Resident Artists Program. Her writing has appeared in Granta, The Believer, New York magazine and The New York Times, among other publications.
