Council Member Vincent Gentile, Brooklyn Public Library Celebrate Improvements at Dyker Branch

Council Member Gentile Funds New Roof, Future Interior Renovations

Brooklyn, NY—Council Member Vincent Gentile joined Brooklyn Public Library today to celebrate ongoing improvements at Dyker Library and enjoy a performance from the Dyker Singers, a neighborhood choral group that rehearses at the library. The branch is currently open to the public while it undergoes a roof replacement project funded in part by Council Member Vincent Gentile.

“Brooklyn Public Library is grateful for Council Member Gentile’s continued advocacy for the libraries in his district,” said BPL President and CEO Linda E. Johnson. “His strong support has enabled BPL to make much-needed improvements in our branches, including the new roof at Dyker Library.”

With its distinctive blue-green glazed brick exterior and lively community programs, Dyker Library is well known to, and well attended by, the residents of Dyker Heights. In addition to funding, along with Borough President Eric Adams, a large portion of the roof renovation project, expected to be complete in late 2016 or early 2017, Council Member Gentile has also provided $1 million for a renovation of the branch's interior that will begin in the next few years.

“Dyker Library always puts a smile on my face and its patrons,” said Council Member Gentile. “With the roof replacement project nearing its completion and the exciting interior renovations to come, Dyker Library will be one of the shining beacons of all the libraries in Brooklyn and this city. I am proud to have advocated for and allocated capital funds to kick start these innovative projects for our Dyker Heights residents.”

Dyker Library remains open throughout the roof renovation work. Its hours are MWF, 10 am to 6 pm; Tuesday, 1 pm to 8 pm; Thursday, 10am to 8 pm; and Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm.
