LitFilm Fall 2021 Part 2

A BPL Film Festival About Writers

September 20–26, 2021

LitFilm—BPL’s popular film festival about writers, now in its fourth year—returns this fall with an exciting lineup of documentaries and films, highlighting some of the most influential and iconoclastic literary minds, jostling for their places in the ever-shifting canon. Get an inside look at the private lives, artistic processes and political struggles of luminaries such as Isabel Allende, Hannah Arendt, Truman Capote, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Ernest Hemingway, Carlos Marighella, Jill and N. Scott Momaday, Flannery O’Connor, Amy Tan, Tennessee Williams, August Wilson, and more.

The festival's keynote conversation will be between Hemingway  director Lynn Novick and the film's producer Sarah Botstein, on making literary documentaries, filmmaking partnerships and more. Director Sam Pollard discusses August Wilson and his latest work. Plus, Jill and N. Scott Momaday present Jill’s intimate memoir-film, The Return to Rainy Mountain, based on her dad’s book. Oscar nominee Kate Novack introduces "Hysterical Girl." And Molly Crabapple recalls the Paris of Shakespeare & Co.

All screenings are free but require reservations.

Times subject to change.
