Join the Center for Brooklyn History’s Educators for a Professional Development on teaching civics through the history of social and political engagement in Brooklyn.

The NYS Civic Readiness Initiative implores educators to "[empower] all students to make informed decisions for the public good as members of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world." At CBH Education, we feel that the best way to accomplish this goal is to consider how we got here. This all-day Professional Development session will engage local civic history through CBH’s new “People Making Power” exhibition, feature a presentation on the exhibition’s creation by CBH Chief Historian Dominique Jean-Louis, and conclude with CBH Educators sharing strategies for crafting open-ended questions and instilling debate and argument skills through primary source research.

A light breakfast and a full lunch will be provided. Participating educators will receive 6 CTLE credits.

CBH Education is generously supported by The Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund, The Hearst Foundation, Epstein Teicher Philanthropies, The Michael Tuch Foundation, The Nissan Foundation, National Grid Foundation, The Pine Tree Foundation, Con Edison, and Festa Family.
