University Open Air: A Play in Two Hours: Speedwriting for the Stage
Can you write a play in two hours? Yes, you can. And we will.
This fast-paced, joy-filled workshop is for anyone who’s ever wanted to write a scene for the stage but didn’t know where to start. Whether you love drama, comedy, or awkward silences, we’ll help you dive into dialogue, character, and conflict—and come out with a mini-play by the end of class.
In this workshop, we’ll:
- Learn the three essential elements of any play: people, problem, and place.
- Look at excerpts from tiny plays that pack a punch.
- Dream up a character who wants something badly.
- Draft and share a short play (solo, duo, or group scenes welcome!).
No theater experience necessary—just bring your boldest ideas and your messiest first drafts.
