BPL Presents creating our story together humanities and art social sciences University Open Air

If you had to share something interesting about your life in five minutes, what would you say? Everyone has a story – and here’s a chance to tell yours to a captive, judgement-free audience. The rules? You should be personally connected to the story; be exciting, terrifying, inspiring, mundane, emotional, or a rollercoaster with all the above; and have the guts to speak freely before a group of strangers! Tell us about the most embarrassing experience you’ve had. What’s the story behind your childhood nickname?

Make us laugh, cry, scratch our heads, or burst into spontaneous applause. We will use speaking prompts to jog your memory (only if you need them).

Denise Wiley is a journalist, public relations practitioner, and ESL instructor. Prior to moving to the US, Ms. Wiley lived in Japan where she taught business English, business communication and cultural awareness. She holds a BA in Media and Communication and is currently reading for the MA in International Migration Studies at The Graduate Center, CUNY.

We are very excited to have you back at our events and would like to remind you that we are still in the midst of the pandemic. Please be considerate of your fellow guests and stay home if you’re feeling unwell. Also, consider wearing a mask when attending indoor BPL Presents events. You’ll be doing your part to help keep yourself and everyone healthy and safe.

BPL Presents programs are made possible by the New York Council on the Arts witht he support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
