BPL Outdoors BPL Presents humanities and art University Open Air

Beginning with the questions and observations in her class, Beauty and Ugliness in Francophone Literature taught over a few years of University Open Air sessions, Nadia Bongo, in collaboration with Dylan Castagnette, developed and filmed "Wandering in Beauty", a short film examining ideas and realities of beauty. Nadia filmed in Prospect Park, including images in and around the Boathouse and musings from participants in her September 2023 class. Nadia and Dylan learned how to and edited this 10-minute, sometimes impressionistic, short film throughout this past year. The result of their efforts, which originated from the conversations in her classes and the loveliness of the park in September, is being screened the first time at this event to celebrate the end of the September 2024 University Open Air session.

The film as described by the filmmakers:  Wandering in Beauty is an experimental short about a woman who wanders in Prospect Park while she, along with a few people and things encountered, speaks about beauty. Because it partly informs her ideas of beauty, the woman also confronts her past.
