Understanding Digital Surveillance

“You’re being tracked” they say! “They’re stealing your data” they say! But what does this really mean and how does it directly impact you? Join us for the first part of our three-part Digital Surveillance Resources Series. This workshop will be a deep dive into our current surveillance state. Learn what apps and websites are really collecting from you, what they do with that information, and how to better protect yourself from Big Tech. 

The workshop will be led by Serita Sargent, a Ph.D. student in Library and Information Science at Rutgers University. Their research surrounds data/tech ethics, including AI and algorithmic bias, focusing on AI and everyday surveillance technologies. 

The program will be streamed on BPL's YouTube Channel and will include a Q&A. You will be able to submit questions anonymously.
