Meet an Archaeologist!

Explore our world! In the Science in the House series teens get a chance to meet with all kinds of interesting scientists and other people.  Hear their stories and learn more about their lives and their work. Discover what life as a scientist is like.

Are you interested in historic sites in Brooklyn and around the world?

Meet Salpi Bocchieriyan , Archaeologist!

Tuesday  May 30, 4:00 - 5:00PM. Live and Virtual (with registration)

Dr. Salpi’s work focuses on protecting archaeological sites on public lands, during construction projects, and in conflict zones. I wonder what they will be able to tell us about some of Brooklyn and New York’s historical sites!  Learn more about them on our Padlet and post your questions .  Join us  in person or by Zoom to "check out" this interesting human being (instead of a book).

Salpi Bocchieriyan (She/They) is a cultural resources specialist working with a private firm on various projects throughout California.  She also serves as a monitoring consultant for Caucasus Heritage Watch - a group working to track heritage destruction in the South Caucasus in the wake of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. Previously, she worked at Death Valley National Park as a cultural resources specialist. She earned her MA in Archaeology from Cornell University with a thesis focused on mortuary practice in ancient Armenia and her BA from University of Colorado, Boulder with a thesis focused on Armenia under the Achaemenid Persian empire. She has spent time on archaeological projects abroad in Greece, Armenia, Romania, and Turkey. Within the USA she has worked in Texas, Nevada, Arizona, and California.
