Meet a Medical Microbiologist!

Explore our world! In the Science in the House series teens get a chance to meet with all kinds of interesting scientists and other people.  Hear their stories and learn more about their lives and their work. Discover what life as a scientist is like.

  • Wonder how bacteria are like Ninja warriors?

  • Curious about how the immune system works to help your lungs fight disease?

Meet Dr Keren Turton, Medical Microbiologist

Dr. Turton is a medical microbiologist. She is studying how the immune system interacts with bacteria, especially in the lungs.

This is really interesting given all the current issues we are having with respiratory diseases like Covid and RSV.

"I study the interaction of the immune system and bacteria.

More specifically, my research focusses on macrophages and Gram-negative bacteria.

I work at Queen's University Belfast in Northern Ireland."

Check out  our padlet below for more information about Dr. Keren and her work with the immune system.

Be sure to post your questions for her on our padlet below.
