POSTPONED to DECEMBER 29!

Meet a Scientist!

Explore our world! In this series for teens we meet with all kinds of interesting scientists and other people.  Hear their stories and learn more about their lives and their work. Discover what life as a scientist is like.

Are you interested in a career in computer science or biology?

Meet Mariah Salcedo, a Graduate Research Associate, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Georgia.  She's a computational biologist who uses computers and coding to treat medical diseases. Find out about what it's like to be a young woman in the field of Computer Science and Biology.

Computational Biologist, Mariah Salcedo!

"My work focuses on the use of machine learning to make a personalized medicine approach for Parkinson's disease," she says, and "I would love to chat more about ... the biology side of my work... the computational side...and about my experience of being a young woman of color in this field!" \

Can we really program human cells like we do a computer?

To get ready, explore the world of computational biology and Parkinsons disease, which is the subject of Ms. Salcedo's research.

Be sure to post your questions for her on our padlet below.
