Meet a Scientist!
In this series for teens, we will meet with all kinds of interesting scientists and other people. Explore our world! Hear their stories and learn more about their lives and their work. Discover what life as a scientist is like. We hope these sessions will be inspirational not only for future scientists, but for those working on Science Fair projects and other research projects. Get some help from an expert!

Meet "Dan the Clam Man," Environmental Scientist
Dr. Dan Killam is an environmental scientist at the San Francisco Estuary Institute. He's helping us to study climate change by looking at the shells of giant clams! He has studied clams from the time of the dinosaurs to the present day, leading some to call him "Dan the Clam Man."
While Dr. Killam has a PhD in Paleontology from UC Santa Cruz, his work covers diverse topics, from using growth lines in the shells of giant clams to measure ancient climate change, to studying how water quality is affected by harmful algae blooms. His research has taken him to the Red Sea, the Italian Alps, Biosphere 2 in Arizona, and the San Francisco Bay.
Ever wonder how to come up with a research question? Trying to figure out how to develop a method for your own science fair project? Are you curious about climate change and want to understand it better? Now is your chance!
