Parable of the Sower: a harrowing, dystopian story from Octavia Butler.

 

Set in 2024 outside of Los Angeles, Lauren Olamina and her family are surviving on the fringes of society after the collapse of the United States. Lauren has to search within herself how to balance her hyperempathy with both her father's religiosity and her family and neighbors' need to survive.
