Spooky Science! Astronomy Night
Join Astronomy on Tap NYC and the Amateur Astronomer Association for a night of fright, a tsunami of zombies, a cauldron of Aldeberans, and telescopes balanced precariously on tightropes*. Hosted by veteran astronomy educator, Brian Levine (he/him), join us for a night of astounding astronomy at Greenpoint Library’s first “Spooky Science!” Astronomy night!
The evening will include an introduction to the library’s community astronomy art exhibit and will feature talks from two astronomy professionals, games (with prizes!) and telescope viewing on the roof (weather-permitting).
The event is meant for those age 18 and above, and may not be appropriate for children. Registration is required. If on phone, scroll down to RSVP.
Schedule:
- 5:30pm Doors open. First game begins, and please check out the art exhibit!
- 6:00pm Presentations start
- 7:15pm Telescope viewing starts
- 7:45pm Event ends
Our speakers:
K. E. Saavik Ford (she/her) is a professor at CUNY BMCC and a research associate at the American Museum of Natural History. As a theoretical astrophysicist, she works primarily on active galactic nuclei (AGN), gravitational waves (GW), and is passionate about improving diversity, equity, & inclusion in astronomy & astrophysics.
Kat Troche (she/her) is a NASA Solar System Ambassador and the VP of Operations for the Amateur Astronomers Association. When she isn’t live-streaming astronomy under the name “Kuiper Kat,” she is taking it to the street with sidewalk astronomy sessions around the five boroughs.
