Silent Movie Matinee: True Heart Susie Silent Movie Matinee: True Heart Susie BPL Presents Silent Movie Matinee: True Heart Susie Silent Movie Matinee: True Heart Susie

TRUE HEART SUSIE (1919) 87 minutes
D.W. Griffith is known for trail-blazing epic-productions, but today's film finds him looking back at a simpler time and place in his own life for inspiration. Lillian Gish plays Susie May Trueheart, who may seem to be a bit naïve and innocent, but truly loves her neighbor, William Jenkins, played by Robert Harron. He seems to care for her, too, but their inner feelings are never fully expressed. After she sacrifices a great deal to anonymously send him money to afford out-of-town college, and faithfully waits, can she also expect his future plans to include her? A film, and performance by Gish, that encompasses gentle humor, joy, and sorrow. Directed by D.W. Griffith.

With Live Piano Accompaniment by Bernie Anderson. Hosted & Curated by Ken Gordon.

Children under the age of six will not be admitted to this program.

Silent Movie Matinees are sponsored by Los Blancos and a generous anonymous donor.
