Silent Movie Matinee: MARION DAVIES: WHAT PRICE PASTRY?
SHOW PEOPLE (1928) 79 minutes
USA
King Vidor’s homage to Mack Sennett’s style of silent slapstick-comedy stars Marion Davies as Peggy Pepper, who achieves success by appearing in slapstick-films. But, given the chance to star in dramas, she sabotages her career with an ego-driven (prat)-fall from grace in this love-letter to movies. With many cameos, including Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and John Gilbert. Directed by King Vidor.

With Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy. A slapstick-tale of two-battles begins with Stan as a prize-fighter in the ring and ends with a pie-fight on the street. Although it is still missing one brief scene, this is a new print that incorporates recently re-discovered footage to fully restore the celebrated pie-fight scene.
