Reparations: Study Group

Thu, Aug 27 2020
1:30 pm – 3:00 pm
Virtual

anti-racism lectures and discussions

From the #cutthecheck billboard on 7th Avenue and Flatbush in Brooklyn, to Asheville, North Carolina’s city council’s recent vote to provide financial reparations to descendants of slaves, the talk around reparations is getting louder.

If you’re interested in learning more, and discussing what you think reparations should look like, please join our four-session study group. Archivist Anika Paris will guide us through an exploration of current and historical demands for reparations. Each week’s agenda and readings will be shared at tinyurl.com/reparations2020, but we invite you to attend and join the conversation even if you haven’t made it through all of the material.

Note: This program is offered through the African American Heritage Center (AAHC), housed at the Macon Library. AAHC programs are open to anyone, and everyone, interested in celebrating, exploring, and discussing the African Diaspora. If you have questions please contact Sheena at s5miller@bklynlibrary.org.

All AAHC virtual programming will take place via Zoom. For optimal participation, you will need either a computer with audio and webcam or a telephone. A link and number to access the meeting will be sent to registrants one hour before the meeting, so please keep an eye out for the email (and check your spam folder if you don't see it!).
