Photography 101 // Incorporating Mixed Media

Have you been interested in photography but don’t know where to start? Are you a pro or experienced hobbyist looking to elevate your photography beyond the camera?

Then this workshop is for you! Join NYC nightlife & portrait photographer, Jam of Human Flower Productions, for a crash course in photo basics and mixed media.

We will learn the technical aspects of exposure, focus, shutter speed, aperture/depth of field, ISO, lens focal lengths, and composition. Through sample photos we’ll also fine tune your eye to look for good natural light, and how to shape it for best portraiture & landscape results. 

The 2nd half of the workshop will combine the above with mixed media collage and printed photos. Think outside of the camera and photoshop for this hands-on experience of turning your photography into surrealist works of art! We’ll briefly touch on color theory, upcycling materials, and continue to explore compositions from minimalist to eclectic. Mediums include: photo prints, vintage periodicals, found objects, and markers.

By the end of this workshop students will be able to navigate and manipulate their cameras' operation, have a better understanding of composition, and the confidence to create impactful works of art for themselves and others. Applicable for digital & film photography.

This workshop welcomes adults, teens, and children 10 years and up.
